Our Classroom

Thanks for checking out what your child's classroom experience will be like! As the year progresses, I will be able to tell you more, but for now here is a peek at what I like to do in my classroom and what the classroom will look like!

Our Daily Routine

Our first grade day is full of fun activities that are created in order to promote proficiency in literacy and math. Our class will have a strong base in literacy - the processes of reading and writing. On the Home Connections page, you can find some ideas and suggestions for working with your student at home!

We make lots of transitions in first grade. We keep close track of our day by using a daily AGENDA. That way, we never have to wonder what's coming when or where we are going!

I feel that an environment that is well stuctured and consistent is going to help all students grow and achieve academically and socially. We have a great behavior plan in our class called How's Your Day Going? It keeps track of each student's standing minute to minute. Read more about it below!

How's Your Day Going?

This plan helps to give your child ownership over their day. The program consists of 5 colored cards, each with a different meaning/consequence. Each student has these 5 chances every day to "stay green." When a rule from our class contract is broken, the student will flip a card to the next color, and so on.The 5th and final color is black, which results in the loss of a specified privilege, a black card notice home and if need be- a phone call. A sample of the black card notice was sent home in the manila packet on the first day of school.

Class Contract

A Class Contract generally looks like this. Students sign thier names and agree:

1. To respect each other.

2. To follow the Golden Rule** Treat others the way

you want to be treated.

3. To use our learning time to learn.

4. To follow directions.

Volunteering

I am hoping to see many parents and grandparents in to volunteer this year. If you would like to volunteer, please call me here at school at 795-4150.

It should be understood that any volunteer would need to agree to the following: *to dress in an appropriate fashion
*to refrain from the use of negative or obscene language
* and that all student work, student information and conversations are confidential and to be kept within the classroom environment.
